Dr. Yvonne Seon (Chappelle) presented at Wilberforce University on Thursday, April 11, 2013. She discussed her life, The Negritude Movement (
La Negritude), and her son (
Dave Chappelle). It was interesting hearing about La Negritude because I immediately linked it to
The Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s. Come to find out that the movement was inspired by The Harlem Renaissance and each movement had someone that connected both movements;
Langston Hughes. Mr. Hughes spoke French and was instrumental in both movements. Dr. Seon's time at Wilberforce was very insightful. The students at Wilberforce came out in great numbers and showed a lot of respect to the visitors on campus.
