The Journey to the Truth!

The Journey to the Truth! can be challenging and yet liberating.

Some try to sugarcoat the road and walk around the hurdles. The only way to overcome a hurdle is by jumping over it.

So jump already and don't expect a net to catch you. Sometimes you have to free fall and learn how to fly.

When Did We Stop...

When did we stop
Saying good morning to one another
When did we start
Looking each other up and down and rolling our eyes
Side eye glare I call it
For no apparent reason
Hateful spirits
Unleashing negativity into the atmosphere
Representing those of minor home training
Happily presenting the syndrome of
Leading others into the destruction of doom
When does emotional intelligence come into play?
When do we teach our children and consumers
That our attitudes are not what we want them to exemplify
We are a reflection of our community, schooling, and surroundings
Choose not the attitude of others
Choose to be more than society expects you to be

Why Do People...

Why do people lie?
Bellowing out layers of fallacies
That would not have been said better
Than the serpent that lead Adam and Eve to their demise
Their slimy scales
Slicker than their gliding tongues
Which has no remorse for the false truths that follows it
Do these deceitful creatures know not what their eyes tell?
What their voice construes?
What their lies unfolds?
Deceit is selfish
Unyielding
Disheartening
Deceit is loveless

Love Lost

Love lost
Being tossed
One hand
One fist
Heavier than a kiss
Quick reaction
Hurt emotions
Long term sentences
The town has spoken
Ridicule for things unknown
Music blares a disheartening song
Tried without the court and jury
This is many man’s fury
Banished from the spotlight
Which society gave him
The beast society created
Now wishes to tame him
Mentality:
We created you
So now we can take you apart
Life as it is and has been
Is this the end of the beginning?

Or the beginning of the end?

In the Midst of the Morning Dew

I want to be lost if you forever
Return to my past being, never
This love of ours, together we tether
Any storm, any type of weather
Our union is real, not pleather
Our love I don’t want to sever
To infinity and beyond, we go to together
Just love and wish upon a feather

Position as Commander-in-Chief

Things change in the matter of moments
What would you do if you were faced with certain challenges that could change the whole dynamics of your organization, company, and even the world?
Could you confidently state you would know the right thing to do?
Sometimes people sit so upright in the scorner’s seat of judgment that they fail to see the role they play within society’s misconceptions of life.
Would these ridiculers make the same trivial mistakes in the decision making process
Or would their decision be what is best for the country
Making decisions and analyzing decisions are two very different accounts
One has the ability of affecting the whole world
The other is just supposed to be an evaluation of the pros and cons of the decision
We all know that analyzing decisions are often biased
With no real reliable data to go off of
And tends to steam from hate and emotionally charged words
As American people
We must know that all decisions are not the best decisions
We live, learn, and move on from our current state of mind
To keep this country going
It’s the only way
It’s the American way
So I say all of this to say
I give respect and patience to my Commander-in-Chief
For I know his job has not been easy
For I hear the blames being tossed his way
Even when he has nothing to do with the accusations
Stay strong

And keep going

When Forever Ends Tomorrow

Sometimes forever ends tomorrow
Leaving no permanent casualties
Only hurt feelings
And temporary states of mind
Forever is sometimes spoken
As to mean until the end of time
Or the end of our life time
We as people know
That our forever is sometimes overshadowed
By beautiful spoken soliloquies
With no partakers of this relational truce
Our forever ends unequivocally
Giving rise to a whole new meaning of forever
I say
Live forever with as much enthusiasm as possible
Because forever could one day
Be true to its inception

Relationships 101

Picture found here
By no means are relationships easy. There can be many changes with relationships, such as: Communication, time, sharing, money, and much more. All relationships are different. Can you remember the first and last person you were in a relationship with? I want you to think about what went well in each relationship and what did not go so well. If you are currently in a relationship, I want you to compare and contrast your current relationship with your last relationship. We are continuously growing and developing our relationships with each other, each day. Gaps in between relationships allow us to analyze the role we played in the break up or make up of the relationship.

To be honest, some people jump head first into a relationship not always evaluating the ramifications of certain actions. Jumping head first can be ok as long as the other person you are jumping for is also jumping. People are not always on the same wave length when it comes to relationships unless a discussion takes place regarding what is expected. At times people’s expectations of the relationship can lead to total chaos because of expecting too much or expecting too little. What I suggest to you is that you talk with your significant other about what is expected so you know what and what not to expect.

Picture found here
Make sure you are making fun a priority with your significant other. Relationships are about having fun, living in the moment, and experiencing new things. You have to make sure your mind is open to receive new information and also give information. In my eyes, the learning part is always the best part of the relationship because it’s like being blind and feeling your way around the world until things start making sense. Continue making sense of things by having fun.

Giving your all is good, but make sure you are not the only one doing it. When I think about giving and relationships, I think about couples implementing the give-and-take method rather than the take-and-take or give-and-give method. People have to feel as though they are a valuable part of the relationship and not that the relationship is built on what someone else can do for a person or what a person can do for another person. They want to have the same amount of control in the relationship because it is about two people, not just one person.

Picture found here
A good question you have to ask yourself is, are you willing to do things for your significant other that you are not willing to do for yourself? You should ask yourself this question before it even becomes a topic and know the answer because believe me, you will be faced with this issue. I remember when I was in school to get my masters, I was dating this young man who I really cared for. I truly loved him and would do (Almost) anything to make sure he was happy. Well, everything except devalue my character, get into financial ruin, or do anything cruel and demeaning. One night, my significant other was suffering from a toothache. Me being the person that I was, stayed up all night rubbing the side of his face to make sure he felt better. The interesting part about this situation was when I needed something such as a back rub from working three jobs or just a nice relaxing bath ran, my significant other refused to assist me. “Ain’t that about nothing.” Where are people at when you really need them? His actions allowed me to start taking a thorough evaluation of the situation and start putting my needs sometimes before other people's. Of course there are going to be situations in which you will have to put another person first; however if people have yet to put you first in your relationship, why should you continue to put them first?

Picture found here
My last tidbit of information is regarding relationships and money. Most of us know that money can be the very reason why people fight and break up. My motto is “I am not willing to do something for someone else that I would not very well willing to do for myself.” This is in regards to taking out a financial loan, co-signing for a car, or any other unruly thing that a person may ask you to do. I am all for empowering others to make good financial decisions to increase their profit and know exactly where their money is going. This could be through the use of a budget, financial consultant, and other methods to increase a person’s financial literacy. People should be open to assisting others with a $50 or $100 loan every now and then; however when it comes to depleting your emergency fund or placing you in a situation that could have a negative impact on your finances, you may want to think twice. It’s definitely ok to help others. You just have to make sure you are in a position to help others because you may actually be the person who needs assistance. To be quite honest, I did not always think this way. I was the one who would go to a check cashing place to take out a loan for others. Well, that was until one day I took out the loan and the person did not pay me back when he was supposed to do so. I was already having financial issues of my own, so I could not pay the loan back myself. His $100 loan cost me more than he actually paid me back for the loan. When he did repay me, I was just so happy to receive the money back that I did not ask for any additional money for the charges of not returning the loan back on time. From that point on I developed the lovely motto that you see above. It was only right for me to protect myself because if I did not protect myself then who would?

~Remember to live life for yourself and not through the eyes of other people. Your love will blossom, endure, and transform.

Relationships: Can You Sustain a Healthy Relationship with Your Ex?

Picture found on ModernFemaleCentral.com
When you think about relationships, do you think of a life filled with Exs? If you are some people then this answer is yes, but some people do not believe that you can carry a healthy relationship with your ex, especially if you broke up due to detrimental factors.

My answer regarding carrying on a relationship with an ex  is that it can be done; however you have to be very honest with the current person you are in relationship with so no one gets hurt. When I talk about hurt, I am not just talking about hurt emotional, but physically too. If your previous relationship was a very violent one where you had to get a restraining order against the person, it is only fair that you are up front with the current person you are in a relationship with so he or she will have a choice in the matter whether or not to stay with you. What some people fail to realize is that harmful situations tend to happen when the other person is hiding information from the other person, secretly carrying on a current relationship with their ex, or misrepresenting information that could harm someone.

In my current findings, I have found that some people tend to complain heavily about their ex when they are still emotionally attached to the person. It is like they have yet to move away from the hurt that the person caused them in the past that they bring that same emotion into their future relationships. Although these people complain about their exs, they will follow them on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and other social media websites. So in reality, it's like their mouth speaks false hope because their actions are not aligning with what they are saying.

I have an acquaintance who told me a couple of years ago that her ex was very violent, irresponsible, and just detrimental to the health of their relationship. The individual was so violent that my friend had to get a restraining order against him. The unbelievable part regarding my friend was that she sustained a relationship with her ex by talking to him on the telephone, following him on Instagram, Facebook, and other websites.

I honestly do not understand the reason for her to maintain such a relationship that she still considers detrimental to her health, especially when she is currently involved with someone else. Either she is in denial of still loving this person or maybe she has exaggerated the truth just a wee bit. I am definitely not telling her who she can and cannot associate herself with, I just don't want innocent people to get hurt because of her current choices. The fact of the matter is that my acquaintance still cares about this individual the way she keeps discussing the person and giving the person all her energy. My acquaintance needs to be true to herself. If she still wants to be with the individual, just be open, honest, and let your current boyfriend know about the situation. It is only fair to him so he will know where he stands.

~Relationships are about honestly, not the misrepresentation of the truth. Start living in your truth.

Snake Eyes

I'd rather be solo
Then in like of:

A playa playa
A liar
A person who tries to intellectually deceive me with his romantic words, snake eyes, and calloused tongues.

Here he
Here he
All ye deceptors
Deceptacons
Misrepresented substitutes

Let your lies wallow
In the bellies of the unjust

Let your insensitivenes
Guide you to battered war zones

Let your secret
Plague the place that it lies

I
Woman of substance
Love not deceptors

Dead Wrong

Designed by Soulo Theory
Guess What's Back in a Different Form?
Well guys, Dead Wrong is finally on ebook. This was the first book I published in 2010. The book so popular that I had sold out of most of my physical copies within two to three months. The book has done extremely well since I added it to ebook. A lot of ebook copies have been obtained within the last few days of me releasing the book on Amazon. Lets continue to make Dead Wrong popular by telling your friends about it, purchasing copies for family, and helping to bring this book to the theaters. I definitely think this would be a great movie. I am not just saying this because I am the author of this book. I am saying this because I truly believe that it could work. Meagan Good could play the lead character, seeing that they resemble each other.

About Dead Wrong:
Dead Wrong is about a young woman name Tasha Marie Smith. Tasha is an African-American woman from Cincinnati, Ohio. She moved to Columbus, Ohio as a teenager with her parents. Ms. Smith is organized, goal oriented, and self-reliant. She has a bachelor's degree and is working on her master's. Life couldn't get any better than this.

Tasha is a smart woman because she makes goals for her life that are attainable. They are attainable because she doesn't have a family to take care of and her immediate family is willing to help her. Well, it was a good life. That was until her life took a 180 degree turn down the wrong direction. It was all because of a man named Jacob.

Jacob seemed to be everything she yearned for; educated, well-groomed, confident, financially set, didn't have any kids, and he was single. Or was he? What more did she need? He was everything she thought she needed. He exemplified success and she wouldn't stop until she achieved success also. What she didn't know was that sometimes success comes with a high price and his price was everlasting. Was Tasha willing to pay the price of success?

Whatever she decided, Jacob's love would leave her body limp with frustration, shock, betrayal, and deceit. Tasha Marie Smith was dead wrong, or that was what she was told. She will soon admit her wrongness or she will feel the burdens of it.

I Profess...

I sit here
Wondering how your words
That were supposed to be instructional expression
Turned into furiously fueled energy at the expense of me
See
I was always taught to talk my problems out
Take the bull by the horn
And let the negative verbiage dissipate
Your emotional state
Took the content of the matter
To a whole other level
Now
We are just constants
In this cycle of never-ending conflict
Today

I profess to want more

How Deep?

I’m deep
Deeper than the coast
Deeper than people at a pig roast
Deeper than Swat
Deeper than those who have and have not

I’m deep
Deeper than deep
Deeper than Outkast’s song Deep
Deeper than those who say “I’m deep up in these streets”
Deeper than the knowledge that speckles the teeth of the meek

I’m deep
Deep like the inability to wake you from your sleep type of deep
Deeper than the “southern trees baring strange food” dialect deep
Deeper than Method Man’s “Love Jones for your body and your skin tone” deep

I’m deep
Deeper than Malcolm’s faith in the Honorable Eljiah deep
Deeper than Huey P. Newton’s knowledge of his second amendment deep
Deeper than the March on Washington and Bloody Sunday deep

I’m deeper than spoken word spewing from the mouths of the poetic
While pulling people deep into the knowledge
That was once lost
But now is found

Reveal in me
The deepness that sparks the passionate souls
Of those with abashed characters
Those who need enlightenment

I say
I’m deep
Come be deep
With me

Poetry

Poetry
Beautiful, expressive words
Flowing gracefully from the mouths of contenders
Spewing romantic novellas
Retaliating from casualties
Words to bruise a battered soul
Fine like wine
No damsel in distress
It's poetry
To all she gives her best

National Poetry Month: April

National Poetry Month

April marks National Poetry Month. As a poet, I felt that I needed to contribute by writing a poem each week. My plan is to write one poem each week and post it on here. Poets, I challenge you to participate in poetry events this month by writing, reading, inspiring, tweeting, and continuing your progression in life with poetry in mind. Let us continue to show he world what poetry is all about.

Here's my first poem:

What’s In Your cup?

I taste smooth
Perfectly combined flavors
That dances with my taste buds
In a calm, yet minty way

The taste brings forth images
Of beautiful green pastures
Of lemongrass lawns
With hammocks dangling from invisible cords

I taste the sunshine
Lemony flavor
Mixed with spearmint
I taste Zen

Unsung, But Work Highly Recognized

Cooley High (1975) Poster
Picture from IMDB
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of watching an amazing movie that I watched in my childhood; Cooley High. What a magnificent movie? In watching the movie there are so many lessons that can be learned. Personally, I learned about the effects of skipping school and wanting to have fun. In others watching the movie, they could have learned about staying motivated and not giving up on their dreams. My personal belief is that school or continued education provides a way for us to enlighten ourselves, which would assist in us accomplishing our dreams.

Today, TVOne showed Cooley High on UnSung (Hollywood). I was excited to learn more about the characters and the writer, Eric Monte. Interesting things I gained from the show was that the people on set were like family, the guys who played “gangstas” were real, and Eric took his family with him to Hollywood. The unfortunate part that I found out about was that Eric was not paid his fair share for writing the movie (Imagine that) and that other great shows were developed from Cooley or using the writer’s suggestions, such as: The Jefferson’s, What’s Happening, Good Times, and Sanford andSon. Eric sued ABC and CBS for “Stealing his ideas for Good Times, The Jeffersons, and What’s Happening.”

Eric is now said (TVOne) to live in Colorado.

~Best wishes to Eric and his further endeavors

Goodbye Ohio. Hello New Jersey!

Well, it's official!

Last month, I went from being a resident of The great Buckeye State to the promising Garden State in a matter of eight hours. That was approximately how long it took me to travel from Ohio to New Jersey. What some look at s big drastic change, I look at as a change for better opportunities. It is time for me to continue pushing toward my dream of becoming a great writer and experience things unbeknownst to a little southern gal from Columbus, Ohio. Ohio definitely assisted with my growth and development as a writer. Now its time to perfect my craft in New Jersey and see if I have what it takes to soar like a bird.

Farewell sweet Ohio. Until we meet again. I will be in living life to the fullest in New Jesey.

How Do You Rank in Emotional Intelligence (EQ)?

While partaking in my regular Twitter activities today, I saw a post by Burton Brown Sr. regarding emotional intelligence. I just had to review the information because of a past discussion about emotional intelligence. A few years ago, a classmate of mine in my masters program did a review on emotional intelligence. It was very interesting to learn about and hear others discuss it.

My Score from About.com: Psychology

What's Your EQ?
Emotional Intelligence Test
How Did You Score?
Your results indicate a high score on emotional intelligence.

What Does Your Score Mean?
People who score high on emotional intelligence tend to be skilled at interpreting, understanding, and acting upon emotions. They are adept at dealing with social or emotional conflicts, expressing their feelings, and dealing with emotional situations.

It's important to remember that no matter how good your score is, there is always room to improve your emotional intelligence. Consider areas where you are not as strong and think of ways that you can learn and grow. Take stock of your strong points and find ways to continue to develop and apply these skills.
My Thoughts
As you can see above, I scored pretty high on emotional intelligence. As a supervisor, I think it is very important for me to have a high level of emotional intelligence to understand what is affecting my staff's work. My high level of emotional intelligence could be the very reason why I often feel like the Dr. Phil of my office and within my social settings. A lot of people generally come to me about questions, problems, and other matters they may need assistance with completing. In reviewing one of Mr. Burton's last posts today "Please don't get me wrong all human emotion has its place, but it must not interfere with taking the appropriate action to get things done." I do agree with it. I also believe that those who high levels emotional intelligence should be equipped with the ability to redirect others who may need assistance, guidance, or help with certain emotional details.
Thank you for posting this information Mr. Brown.

Meet Me at Half of Pi

Meet me at half of Pi
That’s 1.57079632679
Square units from our starting point
It’s half of a moon
Half of the distance that it takes
For my eyes to encounter yours
Half of the time spent letting true love find me
When all I had to do was meet true love half way
If only Pi would have meant more to me
When I was a Geometry test taker
With no real equation to apply
The rationale of it all
Now I sit here
Carefully examining the equation
D = 2r
Which, if calculated correctly
Displays the midpoint between you and I
If this circle that I speak so highly of
Was reshaped with precision and care
It would morph into something so beautiful
That all those like it could see
a heart
Now
I say with such truth and conviction
Meet me at half of pi
Today
Tomorrow
And every day that I breathe this glorious air

The Progression of Inspiration

Legos Exhibit at
Columbus Museum of Art
At some point in time, inspiration has to come from within. It has to be self-sustaining; otherwise how else would you push yourself to keep moving toward your dream? However, until then, below you will find ways to manipulate inspiration.

Inspiration comes in many forms. It can be in the form of thoughts, actions, and other things. When I think of inspiration, I often think about the “Five Senses of Inspiration.” These senses consist of sight, smell, touch, taste, and hear. Sight consists of seeing with all three of your eyes; the eyes on your face and your third eye. Sometimes inspiration is sparked by seeing or being enlightened by something. How many times have you (Writer, Artist, creative soul, etc.) seen something, which sent your mind down a spiraling tunnel of emotionally packed stories, beautiful artistic sunsets, and into realms unbeknownst to those uninspired? Inspiration is sometimes brought forth by releasing our “Five Senses of Inspiration.”

The next sense is sparked by smelling. Have you ever walked in the kitchen of your grandmother’s house and smelled freshly baked cookies? What about ran through a forest, breathing in all the fresh aromas from the morning breeze? How did you feel? Did you feel inspired to eat a warm chocolate chip cookie, run a little faster than yesterday or creatively express how you felt about your environment? Smell can bring out the best memories and have us create everlasting ones.

The next sense is produced by touch. Touching various objects can bring forth many different feelings and emotions to create wonderful masterpieces. Poets, have you ever tried closing your eyes and caressing a wallpapered wall? How did you poetically explain what you found? Was it something like this? The smooth, wallpapered wall with small perforated pieces. Covering a perfectly plain, four-sided resting room. The wallpaper told stories of pierced pencil markings and uneven walls that plaster could not hide. Touch has the ability of allowing people to creatively express themselves in songs, poems, art, and other ways.

The next sense is created by taste. Have you ever tasted something that left an impression on your mind and inspired you? In elementary school, I remember reading a book about chocolate and how it left an everlasting taste in your mouth. My teacher than told us to close our eyes and she put a single piece of chocolate in our hands. She then told us to eat the chocolate without opening our eyes and then tell the class how we felt about eating the chocolate. In eating that piece of chocolate, it felt like the taste would stay in my mouth forever. It was like wells of chocolate were being produced in my salivary glands. Now I want you to try that same technique; however use your craft to creatively express how you felt about eating the chocolate.

The next sense is created by hearing. Hearing can deal with hearing sounds and noises in nature, listening to the word of songs and poems, or just listening to the tones in people’s voices. How can you express what is taking place? After the few examples above, I am sure you will do a great job with expressing the word hearing by using your craft to do so.

Inspiration is created in many forms. Some of these forms have not been listed above because many people have their own set of standards regarding what is inspiration. However you are inspired just know that being inspired should be a progression toward self-sustaining inspiration and inspiring yourself from within.
