9th Annual Next Level Conference

On Monday, May 1, 2017 I was given the opportunity to attend the 9th Annual Next Level Conference developed by Institute for Entrepreneurial Leadership (IFEL). I was able to attend the conference due to the generosity of Newark Arts Council. This was an opportunity of a life time because of influential people like Melinda Emerson (Small Biz Lady), Twyla Garrett, Darryl Bumpass Sr., Dawn W. Brolin, and many more. I also met professional business women who had businesses dealing with fragrances, legos, laundry, schools, real estate and more. I was ecstatic to see Joy Lindsay, CEO of Butterfly Dreamz, who I met about a year ago through a Children's Festival I implemented with another company. There were a lot of goal-driven individuals in the audience ready to give and receive knowledge.

By the end of the event, I had made at least 11 new contacts, four of which were the speakers from the event. I was so charged and ready to increase my contacts and revenue stream. From all the tweeting, facebooking, and instragraming, I was truly surprised today. Today, I viewed Mr. Bumpass Sr's Instagram page where he had reposted a pic of myself and the new business-minded women I met at the event. I am truly appreciative and thankful for opportunities like these.

The New Face of Disabilities: Kashinda Marche (The Triump in Me)

At 7PM, I had a Twitter Party with Kashinda Marche. Kashinda represents #TheNewFaceofDisabilities by having a disability and noting fitting the mold of what people think a person with a disability looks like. The New Face of Disabilities is about educating people about those who have a developmental, physical, or anything else that is recognized as having a disability. My fourteenth book, Diversify Us, was released on 11/5/16. The book is about Alese Morrison, who is a fifth grade student at George Washington Carver Elementary School in Newark, New Jersey. Alese and her fellow classmates were tasked with a very tedious homework assignment to get their minds going. Some of them were up for the challenge, while the others relished in procrastinating. 

This homework assignment would open up discussions for debate, create open dialogue, and show various perspectives on life. Diversify Us allows youth to think and talk about diversity in various environments. It allows them to look at it at school, home, work, and in the communities where they reside. Diversity is a very big topic and is sometimes, which people narrow to one of two things. The objective of this book is to broaden the views of diversity and what it means to other people. 

This book will give youth the opportunity to look at diversity in genders, race, socioeconomic status, states, and much more. 

Poetry, Pastry, and Punch Event

I attended the Poetry, Pastry, and Punch event on Saturday, May 7, 2016 as a performer. The event was great. It was created by Author Renaee Perrier-Smith and MC'd by Elijah Brown. Mr. Brown did a great job as he discussed his road to success, introduced the performers, and made everyone feel at ease in performing. He even discussed the poet's performance after they performed and performed some of his own. The pastries made by Author Renaee were absolutely amazing. She had coconut cake, cranberry almond, carrot cup cakes, and more. Below, you will see my performance, Sonya Felice, and Jamal Hinnant.

The New Face of Disabilities

Compassion International Ministry's Third Annual Anniversay

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of attending Compassion International Ministry's Third Annual Anniversary Event at Philadelphia Deliverance Church of Christ. I was excited to attend the event, but also to be listed on the program to read a poem called, "This is Temporary." The poem complimented the event title, which was called, "Healing & Restoration Program." The poem was about being in a temporary state of existence, which was less than legendary. It was about planning to never be in the same situation again by learning from lessons and progressing toward a better state of awareness and taking action. While attending the program, my niece and I felt the healing and restoration of the program by the testimonies of the ministry's members, praise dance for the lord, and skits regarding letting go of excess baggage. At some time in life, we have all been victims of wearing excess baggage that had the ability of holding us down and disallowing us from movement toward our purpose. Some of us are still victims of carrying unneeded baggage. What we must do is start the healing process for "A better you, better me, better us!"

I would like to thank the ladies of Compassion International Ministry for such a wonderful event. I would also like to thank them for such a wonderful gift.
