Updated Information About the Children's Book Festival

  •

  • There has been a major change in regard to the children's book festival and location of the festival. ADC Kid, Hampton Publishing House, LLC and I have been very busy recruiting authors, illustrators, sponsors, and partnerships for the event. We have also sent out press releases and had meetings with the City of Camden and even Parkside Learning Garden about PBCIP's Haddon Avenue Street Festival on Saturday, September 17, 2016. It was decided and accepted by us that the event should be held in collaboration with the street festival, which has over 500 attendees each year. There will be food vendors, a moon bounce, author readings, face painting, and more.

We definitely could not pass up this great opportunity. Above you will find the updated flyer in regards to the children's book festival.

A Better World Through Literacy!

I would like to thank the numerous people who have contacted me and my partners about donating books for Better World Books.  We are so close in reaching our goal of raising 100 books for literacy programs all across the world.  Within three weeks of starting "A Better Community Through Literacy Book Drive", we had already raised 48 books.  This brings us closer to reaching our goal, with only 52 books remaining.  You still have time to be a part of all the fun of giving and watching what we can do as a community.

All those who donate will receive special appreciation from me on Twitter, Facebook, and other media outlets.  Pictures will be taken of donators and sent to Better World Books.  The pictures will also be posted by me and Hampton Publishing House, LLC.  I will also create and place a list on my page, which will detail all participants and how they contributed.

A Better Community Through Literacy Book Drive
For Better World Books

Author Melica Nicole joins forces with owner of Urban Spirit Coffee Shop & Art Gallery, Charity Martin-Via, and literacy enthusiast, Takiyah Baltimore-Nelson, in "A Better Community Through Literacy Book Drive." The purpose of the book drive is to obtain new and used books that are then donated to Better World Books. Better World Books sells these books for a profit and uses a portion of the sales to fund "literacy programs throughout the world with the promise of a better life." Businesses, organizations, and individuals who make donations to these four individuals will receive special acknowledgement of donations on Twitter, Facebook, and other web based media sites.
The book drive will be held in Columbus, Ohio beginning on 11/14/11. It is the hope of Melica, Charity, and Takiyah to obtain at least 100 books by January 31, 2012.

Please send or drop off your donations to the following locations:

Amazon Here I Come!

So pretty soon, my books will be sold on Amazon.com. Hampton Publishing House, LLC has been working very diligently in getting my books sold on the website. I am hoping that everything will be up and running by late May or early June. Just in time for the Celebration of Achievements Event for publishing two books and graduating from graduate school in late August. There are so many events that are closely approaching that I am starting to get excited. These are all the things you have to look forward from me in the following months: release of Poetic Outlets (May), National Black Book Festival (June), and Celebration of Achievements Event(August).

Also, it's time for me to start thinking about a new state to visit, like Florida, Georgia, or California. I would love to visit one of the places I mentioned above. Let's just see where the wind blows and what state I end up visiting.
